Full Spirometry Competency Course:
Includes a 4-5 hour course & assessment on the day. Followed by completion of a Spirometry Portfolio that is submitted to NZRSI at a later date. Competency certificate given on successful completion of Portfolio Assessment.
On the day, the course includes an educational session during which we focus on the ATS/ERS Standards for Spirometry – we give instruction on how best to perform good spirometry in the clinic, and how to trouble shoot both equipment and patient technique. Our physiologists then spend time demonstrating spirometry and running through various scenarios related to test performance. We then move into the first part of the assessment phase. On the day, we are required to see every attendee perform spirometry, at this time we assess their ability to run testing to the standards discussed. This is not a formal sign off more of a feedback style section on their performance.
Each attendee is then required to submit a Portfolio in the months following the course. This includes 10 spirometry sessions that they have completed independently in the clinic on patients. Summary sheets (that we provide) and reports are to be completed and submitted.
Spirometry Educational/Coaching Course:
Includes a 3-4 hour course with spirometry feedback and coaching session. Certificate of attendance is given, rather than competency certificate.
