Sarah Mooney

Sarah completed her training in physiotherapy in 1991 and has focused almost exclusively on cardio-respiratory physiotherapy. Her experience includes working across the age continuum with children/youth/adults on general and dedicated intensive care units, medical and surgical in- and out-patents and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.
Sarah has expertise and a specific interest in the management of people with bronchiectasis, breathlessness and breathing pattern dysfunction. Her research interests include aspects relating to these clinical areas as well as exploring cultural and social attitudes towards cough. She has lectured and presented locally, nationally, and internationally and in 2013, gained her Doctorate.
Clinically, Sarah currently works as a Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner (Cardio-Respiratory). She is also employed part time as a Senior Lecturer in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy with responsibility for undergraduate and post-graduate and research. She is also the course-leader for a post-graduate paper: Breathing, Performance and Rehabilitation.
She is registered with the Physiotherapy Board of NZ and is a member of Physiotherapy NZ, UK and Irish Physiotherapy Chartered Societies, Physiotherapy Cardio-Respiratory Special Interest Groups (NZ and Ireland) and Thoracic and Cardiac Societies of Australia and NZ.
In 2021, she was awarded Life Membership to Physiotherapy NZ and in 2022 she was awarded Fellowship of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand. These accolades are in recognition of her leadership, mentorship and clinical/research contribution to cardio-respiratory physiotherapy in NZ.
